ResultsPITTSFORD, N.Y -- Nazareth's track and field teams traveled down East Avenue for the Cardinal Classic on Saturday, which was hosted by St. John Fisher College. Junior
Luis Rivera continued to dominate the hammer throw event, where he placed first with a throw of 53.95 meters (117 feet). It was just shy of his best mark of 54 meters (177 feet, 2 inches), which he reached at Nazareth's Roc City Classic meet. Meanwhile in the women's meet, senior
Hannah Brackley recorded a second-place, school-record performance in the 100-meter dash with a time of :12.56. Brackley's rare appearance in the 100 dash edged the school-record by .11 seconds.
The Golden Flyers' women's team placed seventh with a combined score of 38 points. RIT was first with 106 points. Fredonia claimed second with 98 points, and Rochester was third with 80 points.
In the women's meet, junior
Taylor Pierson took first in the long jump with a leap of 5.46 meters (17 feet, 11 inches), and classmate
Amanda Entress finished just outside the top-10 in 11th (4.78 meters—15 feet, 8 1/4 inches). Entress recorded a fourth-place performance in the triple jump with a mark of 10.58 meters (34 feet, 8 1/2 inches). In the high jump, freshman
Emily Soeder (1.57 meters—5 feet, 1 3/4 inches) and senior
Kate Durr (1.47 meters—4 feet, 9 7/8 inches) placed second and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore
Kelsey Hill was just outside the top-10 in the triple jump with a mark of 9.73 meters (31 feet, 11 1/8 inches). Freshman
Emily Pawlowski also took 10th in the pole vault with a mark of 2.3 meters (7 feet, 6 1/2 inches).
On the track, senior
Michaela Gildemeyer was fourth with a time of :59.54 in the 800-meter run, and freshman
Kimmy Lovett was fifth in the 1500-meter event with a time of 4:55.77. Following Gildemeyer in the 800 was freshman
Samantha Goble in ninth (1:01.59) and classmate
Andrea Larnard in 11th-place (1:02.62).
Freshman
Sarah Williams was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.47), while junior
Maggie Muzio was 10th (:13.46) in the 100-meter dash, and freshman
Elizabeth Wisely was 11th (1:17.66) in the 100-meter hurdles.
In the men's meet, Nazareth finished eighth in the men's meet with 36 points. Rochester amassed 103.5 points to take first. Fisher was second with 66 points to edge Oswego, which tallied 64 points.
Junior
Tom Sippie also recorded a first-place performance. Sippie crossed the line with a time of 49.46, and sophomore
Matt Battaglia also had a top-10 time as he placed seventh in :51.54. Freshman
Nick LaBarbera was third in the 200-meter dash (:22.69) and fourth in the 100 dash (:11.31).
In field events, junior
Brandon Vuolo was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.28 meters (43 feet, 6 7/8 inches), and he was fourth in the discus event with a mark of 39.68 meters (130 feet, 2 1/4 inches). Vuolo was also 10th in the hammer with a mark of 42.26 meters (138 feet, 7 3/4 inches).
The NYSCTC Multis are scheduled April 26th and 27th. The Golden Flyers are also in action again next week when Nazareth travels to St. Lawrence for the NYSCTC Championships May 1st and 2nd.
