Biography

12936Physical Therapy major... born 9/20/95... son of Michael and Renee LaPoint, Fairport, N.Y... returning for his third season, LaPoint continued to swim well for the Golden Flyers in 2016-17 and was the recipient of the team MVP Award as well as the Hardest Worker Award... won the state and Empire 8 Conference title in the 200 IM by breaking his own school record with a time of 1:51.96... also placed second in 200 backstroke (1:50.79), third in the 400 IM (4:07.60), third in the 800 free relay (7:02.37) and sixth in the 400 free relay (3:11.47)... part of relay records in the 400 and 800 free relays... set meter records in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.80), 200 breaststroke (2:29.12), 200 IM (2:12.06) and 400 IM (4:49.33) in addition to the 200 and 400 medley relays (1:50.36 and 4:04.30).

2015-16: LaPoint enjoyed a record-breaking first year with the Golden Flyers in after transferring in from Canisius... recipient of team's Coaches Award after breaking school records in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.83) and the 200 (1:53.37) and 400 IM (4:04.32) to place fourth, third and second respectively at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Conference meet... also part of four relay records -- the 200 medley relay (1:36.24), the 400 medley relay (3:30.26), the 400 free relay (3:12.70) and the 800 free relay (7:05.16)... also broke school record in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:08.06) in a dual meet vs. Hartwick on 11/7/15... earned first-team Empire 8 all-star honors in the 400 IM and second-team in the 200 breast.

2014-15: LaPoint competed for Canisius in 2014-15 and placed 11th in the 200 IM and eighth in the 400 IM at the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference championships.

Scholastic: a 2014 graduate of Fairport High School, LaPoint swam there for four seasons... won four Section Five titles, including individual titles in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly in 2014... a two-time All-Greater Rochester selection  and a 12-time state meet qualifier... served as team captain and recipient of Section Five Sportsmanship Award.
