Women's Lax Downs Houghton 19-7 on Career-Day From DeVona

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Haley DeVona finished with a career-high eight points, on five goals and three assists, to help Nazareth cruise to a 19-7 victory Tuesday over Houghton College.

With the win, Nazareth improves to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Houghton drops to 3-9 and 0-5, respectively. 

Haley DeVona and Jamie Martin both had a monster first half of play, including connecting on four of Nazareth's goals.  DeVona found the net four times and added three assists and Martin added three goals and three assists in the opening half.

Kate Rothrock gave Nazareth a 2-0 lead, only to see the Highlanders score the next pair of goals.  Martin assisted on back-to-back goals to give Nazareth the lead for good, one to Haley DeVona and the other Leah Marvin.

Martin scored an unassisted goal at the midway point to make it 5-2.

Later in the half, Haley DeVona assisted Nicole DeVona and Martin for consecutive goals to make it 10-3 under the five minute mark. It was 11-5 at the break. 

Mackenzie Corbett came in to start the second half and made two saves.  She did not allow a goal until 6:32 remained in the game.

Morgan Johnson scored her first goal of the season in the second half, to go along with Addilys Geitner and Rachel Wilson each scoring their first-collegiate goals.  In all, Nazareth had twelve different scorers in the game.

Maeghan O'Brien and Lily Aldrich also found the net for Nazareth.

Rothrock finished with two goals and one assist in the win.

Brianna Rizzari made two saves, while allowing five goals in 30 minutes of action.

Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Elmira at 4 p.m.
