HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams were in action at Houghton's Highlander Invitational on Friday.
Emily Soeder (high jump) and Matt Battaglia (800-meters) were event winners for Nazareth.
In the women's meet, Soeder's mark in the high jump was 1.6 meters (5 ft., 3 in.) to take first. Freshman
Cassie Ellis and junior
Sarah Williams had top-10 finishes in the 400-meter dash. Ellis crossed the line with a time of 1:03.21 to place third, while Williams finished with a time of 1:04.72 to place seventh. In the 800-meter run, three Golden Flyers placed in the top-12. Junior
Samantha Goble was fifth (2:31.13), and freshman
Maria Staehr was seventh (2:33.4). Sophomore
Jessica Hernandez was 12th with a time of 2:42.24. In the 3,000-meter run, junior
Claire Ludington was ninth with a time of 11:11.10, and sophomore
Sage Miller was 13th with a time of 11:44.87.
Emily Pawlowski and
Brittany Travis each finished in the top-15 in their respective field events. Pawlowski was 12th in the pole vault with a mark of 2.52 meters (8 ft., 3 1/4 in.), and Travis was 14th in the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 10.65 meters (34 ft., 11 1/4 in.).
In the men's meet, Nazareth had put out a strong showing for the 800-meter run with Battaglia earning the top spot (1:59.14), while Edward Ely ran to a fifth place finish (2:02.79). Nick LaBarbera was the runner up in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.24, while Nathaniel Murad cam in 11th place in 23.96. LaBarbera was also second in the 400 (50.50).
Tyler Hancock ripped off a pair of top 10 finishes in the weight throw (14.41 meters) and the shot put (11.34 meters).
The Golden Flyers are in action again a week from Saturday on January 28th when Nazareth travels across Rochester for the Brockport Invitational.
