UTICA, NY – The Nazareth track and field squads were back in action for the first time of the second semester on Saturday, competing at the Clark Invitational at Utica College.
The Golden Flyers had a strong showing in the mile on the women's side as
Emily Thompson took the top spot in 5:30.83, over three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Sophomore
Claire Ludington finished in 12
th in a career-best 5:43.63.
Sarah Williams was fourth in the 500 in 1:24.56, while
Cassie Ellis was seventh in 1:25.56.
In the 400-meter run,
Maria Staehr raced to a 10
th place finish (1:04.58), while
Andrea Larnard was 21
st (1:07.69).
Eileen Shea ran in the 800 and came in 13
th (2:35.94).
Nazareth's 4 x 400 of Williams, Staehr,
Katelyn Ellison and
Samantha Goble ran 4:22.13, good for sixth place.
In field action,
Emily Soeder took first place in the high jump (1.55 meters) and was 10
th in the long jump (4.13 meters).
Holly Keown was ninth in the long jump (4.21 meters).
For the men, both Nick LaBarbera and Eddie Ely set the facility record in the 500-meter run. LaBarbera took first place in 1:06.02, closely followed by Edward Ely in 1:06.47. Nathaniel Murad was also in the race, placing ninth (1:09.83).
The Golden Flyers 4 x 400 relay, made up of LaBarbera, Murad, Ely and Matt Battaglia had a solid outing with a 3:32.51 to take fourth place.
Jack Wessel was 28
th in the mile (5:08.56).
Tyler Hancock came in fourth place for the weight throw. He launched a throw of 15.03 meters.
Nazareth returns to action next Friday when it travels to Houghton for a 4 p.m. meet.
