ALFRED, NY – Visiting Nazareth had quiet bats on Saturday, falling twice to Alfred University in an Empire matchup. The Saxons cruised to a 14-0 game one win in five innings, before earning a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.
Nazareth drops to 15-17 on the season, including a 1-8 mark in Empire 8 play. Alfred improves to 19-10 and 6-5, respectively.
Game 1: Alfred 14, Nazareth 0 (5 innings)
Alfred came out swinging from the get-go, generating eight runs in the first inning. Four Saxon batters were walked, while one was hit by a pitch which helped the hosts deliver a big inning. Junior Liz Thompson hit a two-run shot to close out the scoring at 8-0.
The Saxons added three runs in both the second and third to open up a 14-0 advantage.
Nazareth had five hits in the game with two coming in the third inning.
Maureen Rogers went 2-for-2 in the game.
Nicole White suffered the loss, pitching three innings and allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on four hits.
Madison Zeis pitched the final inning, surrendering three runs on six hits.
Game 2: Alfred 4, Nazareth 1
Alfred kept up its offense in game two, scoring a pair of runs in the first and second innings.
Once again, the Golden Flyers generated five hits, eventually scoring their lone run in the seventh.

Carly Pike to third.
Rachel Mertens picked up an RBI as the next batter.
Mertens was the only Nazareth player to record multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3.
Mertens was tabbed with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on 10 hits. She struck out one batter in the game.
Nazareth returns to action on Sunday when it hosts RIT at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader contest.
