Communication Science and Disorders major... born 8/17/94... daughter of John and Caroline Mertens, Syracuse, N.Y... returning for her second season Mertens pitched 20 games as junior, finishing with an 11-9 record … registered a 2.13 ERA … notched 61 strikeouts …. pitched a complete game two-hit shutout against Drew on 3/6 – her debut for the Golden Flyers … also tossed a complete-game two-hitter with a career-best nine strikeouts in a 2-1 win over Clark on 3/8/16... pitched the first perfect game in program history (5 innings) in an 8-0 win over Houghton on 4/30/16 … also posted a .278 batting average with six doubles and two home runs and 15 RBI … recorded a career-high three hits against Alfred State on 4/21.
 
2015: Mertens transfered after attending SUNY Geneseo and Finger Lakes Community College... Mertens holds records for wins in a season (9) and most strikeouts in a season (109) at FLCC... two-time Mid-State Athletic Conference all-star selection and winner of the All-Region III Academic Award.

Scholastic: a graduate of Henninger High School, Mertens played softball and bowled there... winner of the Joseph J. Mazella Scholarship for Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
