HOBOKEN, NJ – Visiting Nazareth was held in check with just eight hits in a pair of 5-1 losses to Stevens Institute on Saturday in Empire 8 play.
Nazareth falls to 12-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while Stevens improves to 17-11 and 7-3, respectively.
Game 1: Stevens 5, Nazareth 1
Visiting Nazareth got on the board first with a solo shot from
Morgan Ross in the first inning. Stevens answered right back in the bottom half on an unearned run.
The Golden Flyers were held in check by pitcher Brianna Sandone, who allowed just three hits in seven innings.
Stevens added a run in the third inning on a single and increased its lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning after a two run homerun from Lauren Shirley.
The Ducks added an insurance run in the sixth inning.
Nicole White suffered the loss on the mound, surrendering 10 hits, while striking out five batters.
Game 2: Stevens 5, Nazareth 1
The Golden Flyers faced another tough test on the mound in game two with Olivia Gemma (4-1) allowing just five hits in the contest.
One of the hits that she gave up was a solo homer from
Delaney St. George in the seventh inning, Nazareth's only run of the game. It was St George's second homerun of the year.
Rachel Mertens fell to 6-5 on the mound with the loss, giving up five runs (four earned), on nine hits, while striking out four.
Maureen Rogers went 2-for-3 in the game.
Nazareth returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Elmira for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
