ITHACA, NY – The Nazareth track and field squads delivered some strong individual performances on Saturday at the Empire 8 Championship, with the men finishing in fifth place with 64 points and the women earning fourth place with 29 points.  Ithaca College took home the conference championship on both the men's (121 points) and women's side (248 points).

For the men, Nick LaBarbera, Matt Battaglia, Michael-Jordan Morris and Tom Sippie picked up right where they left off last week in the 4 x 400-meter relay.  After setting the school a week ago in a time of 3:23.74, the quartet came back with a meet record of 3:21.72, nearly four seconds ahead of second place Ithaca.

Sippie earned 10 points for Nazareth with a new facility record of 49.04 in the 400-meter dash, followed closely in second place by teammate Nick LaBarbera who ran a 49.61.  Sippie was also sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.19), while LaBarbera was ninth (23.55).

The Golden Flyers also were able to heavily rely on their throwing crew for the field events.  Luis Rivera, who set the facility record last week in the weight throw, took home top honors with a toss of 18.84 meters (61' 9.75'').  Brandon Vuolo picked up four points with a fourth place throw of 14.95 meters (49' 0.75''), while Tyler Hancock was sixth in 14.49 meters (47' 6.5''). 

Vuolo, who set the school record last week in the shot put in 14.60 meters – 48' 2.5'', notched a toss this week of 14.19 meters (46' 6.75'') to earn fourth place. 

In other track action, Battaglia blew away the field in the 800-meter run with a 1:55.93. 

Freshman Morris finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a school record time of 8.63.  He was also seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.43).

For the women, Amanda Entress was a standout, placing second in both the long jump and the triple jump to pick up 16 points for the Golden Flyers.  She vaulted to 5.12 meters (16' 9.75'') in the long jump and 10.71 meters (35' 1.74'') in the triple jump.

Another strong performance came from Samantha Goble in the 800-meter run as she finished in second place in a time of 2:23.11.  Eileen Shea was 12^th in that same event (2:32.28).

Nazareth's distance medley of Goble, Shea, Andrea Larnard and Emily Thompson earned six points with a 12:48.41 for third place.

The Golden Flyers also earned points in the 4 x 400 meter relay as Goble, Larnard, Emily Pawlowski and Maggie Muzio clocked a 4:18.08 for fourth place.

Thompson finished fourth in the 5000-meter run in 18:20.77.  Jamie DiSalvo placed ninth (19:04.37), while Claire Ludington (19:26.11) was 12^th.  

Nazareth also registered a point from Muzio in the 60-meter dash (8.31).

Larnard and Gabrielle LeBihan just missed picking up points for Nazareth in the 400-meter dash and one mile run, respectively.

Nazareth will next be in action on February 26^th when individuals that have qualified for the NYSCTC Championships will travel back to Ithaca College.
