Women's resultsHOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Nazareth College track and field squads were back competing Friday night at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational.
The 4 x 400 meter relay squad of Alycia Atwell-Chwazik, Andrea Larnard, Samantha Goble and Michaela Traylor were a highlight for the women, coming in second place (4:14.33).
Nazareth had several athletes compete in the one mile run on the women's side. Claire Ludington was fourth in a time of 5:49.12. Sage Miller (5:58.70), Blair Meeson (6:01.89) and Cindy Brownson (6:05.27) took the 9-11 spots.
Goble was just edged out in the 800-meter run, placing second in 2:22.80. Teammate Gabrielle LeBihan finished in 10
th place (2:29.90).
Freshman Traylor had a solid performance in the 200-meter dash, clocking a 27.70, good for 7
th place. Classmate Atwell-Chwazik placed 15
th in 28.51.
For field action, Emily Soeder notched a high jump of 1.60 meters, to finish in the runner up position.
Nazareth took sixth and seventh place in the long jump with Atwell-Chwazik and Amanda Entress each vaulting 4.92 meters.
Entress also competed in the triple jump, earning a fifth place finish at 10.37 meters.
Taylor Smith competed in the weight throw with a toss of 10.25 meters for 16
th place.
On the men's side,
Luis Rivera highlighted the day with a throw of 18.84 meters in the weight throw, the top throw in the country thusfar this season.
Nazareth took the top two spots in the 400-meter dash.
Tom Sippie was the top finisher in 49.73, while
Nick LaBarbera came in the second spot at 50.27.
The men's 4 x 400 meter team of LaBarbera, Sippie,
Jacob Murray, and
Matt Battagliawere victorious with a time of 3:25.73, nearly five second ahead of second place St. Lawrence.
Freshman
Michael-Jordan Morris was impressive in the 60-meter hurdles, ripping off an 8.65 to earn second place.
Also earning a second place finish for the Golden Flyers was Battaglia in the 800-meter run (1:57.91).
Jack Wessel also ran the event, finishing in 22
nd place (2:07.47).
Senior
Brandon Vuolo notched a heave of 13.25 meters in the shot put to place sixth.
Tyler Hancock was 13
th in the event with a toss of 12.24 meters.
Nazareth returns to action next Saturday for the Brockport Multi and Invitational.
