ResultsROCHESTER, N.Y – The Nazareth College track and field teams were back in action for the first time of the semester on Saturday, competing at the RIT Invitational. The men's team placed fifth with 53 points, while the women were sixth with 47 points.
SUNY Geneseo won the meet on the men's and women's side.
On the men's side, Nazareth took the top two spots in the 500-meter dash with
Tom Sippie (67.24) taking first and
Matt Battaglia earning second (67.56), each in ECAC qualifying times.
Nick LaBarbera outpaced the field in the 400-meter dash in 50.89 seconds. Fellow teammate
Michael-Jordan Morris was seventh (54.15). LaBarbera also raced to a seventh place finish in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.72, while Morris was fifth in the 60-meter dash (9.08).
Patrick Neureuter ran in the 3000-meter run and placed 12
th in 9:57.94.
For field events,
Luis Rivera demolished the field in the weight throw with a heave of 18.17 meters. Teammate
Brandon Vuolo was sixth with a toss of 14.53 meters. Vuolo was also 12
th in the shot put at 12.42 meters.
For the women, Samantha Goble blew away the field in the 400-meter dash with a 60.65, over a full second ahead of the second place finisher. She also placed 10
th in the 200-meter dash in a 28.26.
Gabrielle LeBihan was the seventh place finisher in the one mile run (5:27.06). In other distance action, Emily Thompson ran 11:05.06 in the 3000-meter run to earn a fifth place finish.
In field action, Alycia Atwell-Chwazik jumped 5.04 meters in the long jump to take fifth place. Amanda Entress was close behind at 4.94 meters for seventh.
Entress shined in the triple jump at 10.53 meters, good for second place.
Gabrielle Bell was 12
th in the weight throw (10.67 meters).
Nazareth returns to action on Friday at Houghton College with a 4 p.m. start time.
