Nazareth finishes Red Dragon Invitational with 3-1 record

Golden Flyers defeat Richard Stockton; fall to #20 Juniata

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Golden Flyers finished the second day of the Red Dragon Invitational, hosted by Cortland, with a three-set victory over Richard Stockton and a four-set loss to 20th-ranked Juniata. The scores were 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 against the Richard Stockton and 27-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-11 against the Eagles.

In Nazareth's three-set victory against the Ospreys, junior outside hitter Kassandra Buseck had nine kills and freshman Madi Wickens had 24 assists, eight digs and three service aces as Nazareth won its third straight women's volleyball match with a three-set sweep over Richard Stockton.

In the second match against the Eagles, juniors Maria Allocco and Olivia Harrigan each had eight kills to lead the Golden Flyers. Freshman Maureen Thayer amassed 21 assists, and Wickens tallied 14 digs. Allocco was named to the all-tournament team for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers won two matches Friday -- a five-set win over Lebanon Valley and a four-set win over Pitt-Bradford. Richard Stockton split its two matches Friday and finished 28-7 in 2012 and won the New Jersey Athletic Conference title. Similar to Richard Stockton, Juniata also won its 2012 conference title, the Landmark Conference title, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With their victory over Nazareth, the Eagles stand at 3-0 heading into their final match of the tournament, which is against 23rd-ranked Clarkson.

Buseck's nine kills came against three hitting errors in 19 attempts for a .316 hitting percentage. Junior Olivia Harrigan added seven kills and junior Chelsea Beecher contributed six kills and eight digs. Junior Taylor Stabley also had eight digs.

The Golden Flyers are in action again on September 6th and 7th when Nazareth hosts the Golden Flyer Invitational. Nazareth's first match is at 2 p.m. against RIT on September 6th.
