ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Junior
Jake Lafaver lowered his personal-best outdoor time in the 800-meter run by more than a second Saturday as he placed fourth in that event at the Oneonta State May Meet. Lafaver's time of 1:52.97 ranks him 26th nationally in the 800. The top 20 times are eligible to compete at the NCAA championships later this month in LaCrosse, Wis.
Lafaver's previous best outdoor time was 1:54.39 at the NYSCTC Championships at St. Lawrence May 3. He also has run 1:53.24 indoors. Lafaver and a handful of other Nazareth track and field athletes will compete again Thursday and Friday at the ECAC Championships at Springfield, Mass.
In other events at Oneonta Saturday, sophomore
Hannah Brackley finished first in the 400-meter dash in :57.72, a couple of ticks off her school-record time of :57.64 that she posted last week at St. Lawrence. Brackley currently ranks 32nd nationally in the 400. The top 22 are eligible for the NCAA meet.
Sophomore
Michaela Gildemeyer finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:17.89, slightly off her personal-best time of 2:17.22 that she ran last week at St. Lawrence. Senior
Keaghlan Morrissey finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.75 and Nazareth finished sixth in the 4 x 400-meter relay in 4:01.79 with the foursome of
Katie Wyant, Gildemeyer, Morrissey and Brackley.
Freshman long jumper
Taylor Pierson did not compete Saturday because of a tender hamstring. She currently ranks 18th nationally with a jump of 18 feet, 5 1/2 inches completed earlier this spring.
