Nazareth places 6th at E8 Tourney

HERSHEY, Pa. -- Freshman David Studin shot a final-round score of 80 Sunday at Hershey Country Club to lead Nazareth to a sixth-place finish at the Empire 8 Conference men's golf championships. Studin's four-round score of 333 put him in a tie for 15th place individually, one stroke better than sophomore teammate Dan Strack.

St. John Fisher claimed the team title for the third year in a row and for the ninth time in the last 10 years. The Cardinals had the top four individual finishers to post a final-round score of 301 for a 1212 total overall. Scranton (1275) was a distant second, followed by Elmira (1285), Stevens (1330), Susquehanna (1344), Nazareth (1346), Moravian (1357), Utica (1406) and Houghton (1495). The first two rounds were played at Yahnandasis Golf Club in New Hartford, N.Y. last September with the third and fourth rounds played at Hershey.

Strack was Nazareth's individual leader after a third-round 81 on Saturday, but dropped one shto behind Studin after shooting 87 Sunday. Sophomore Andrew Lund and junior Nick Polito each shot 85 to produce Nazareth's final-round team score of 337.

Freshman Sean de Herder and senior Ben Waldman also competed Sunday and each shot 87.

Fisher's Thad Wier III shot 75 Sunday to finish with a 72-hole score of 303, two shots better than teammate Joe Radulski.
