ITHACA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth fell victim to some strong Ithaca pitching Sunday as the Golden Flyers dropped both ends of an Empire 8 Conference softball doubleheader to the Bombers. Scores were 6-0 and 5-1.

The Bombers improved to 16-8 overall and 6-2 in Empire 8 action. Nazareth dropped to 5-15 overall and 3-7 in conference games.

Nazareth was limited to a pair of harmless singles in the first game by Ithaca pitchers Sam Bender and Laura Quicker, who combined for four strikeouts in the shutout win. Nazareth had four hits in the second game against Ithaca's Allison Macari, who struck out three.

In the first game, Ithaca scored three runs in the first inning on two hits and a Nazareth error. Jen Biondi's run-scoring double was the key blow. Three more runs came home in the fifth inning with Sydney Folk contributing an RBI double and Biondi adding a run-scoring single. Nazareth, meanwhile, managed only a single by Morgan Ross in the first inning and a single by Maureen Rogers in the fourth.

In the second game, the Bombers carried a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning when Nazareth scored its only run of the day on back-to-back doubles by Sarah Cipperly and Carly Pike with two outs. Macari then got Emily Beckley to fly out to end the game.

Folk was the hitting star for Ithaca with three hits in four at bats, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Nazareth is home Tuesday to play a non-conference doubleheader against Rochester, starting at 3 p.m.
