LEXINGTON, Va. -- Nazareth opened its men's and women's outdoor track and field seasons Friday and Saturday at the VMI/Washington & Lee Carnival. The Golden Flyers had several strong performances, including a first-place finish by the 4 x 800-meter relay team. Freshman #
Taylor Pierson# also set a school record in the long jump as she finished first with a leap of 18 feet, 1/4 inches.
Nazareth's 4 x 800-meter relay team featured seniors #
Kelsey Mash# and #
Kayla Murphy# as well as junior #
Lauren Heitzhaus# and sophomore #
Michaela Gildemeyer#. They posted a winning time of 9:54.16.
Nazareth also finished third in the 4 x 100-meter relay with the team of freshmen #Sigongile Chisi#, Pierson and #
Amanda Entress# and sophomore #
Hannah Brackley# with a time of :50.70.
Other top performers included Brackley, who placed second in the 400-meter dash by breaking her own school record with a time of :59.20; Entress, who placed sixth in the triple jump (32 feet, 7 inches); Chisi, who seventh in the pole vault (9 feet, 1/4 inches); senior #
Keaghlan Morrissey#, who sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (:68.25); and Gildemeyer, who was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:22.28).
In the men's meet, junior #Jake Lafafver# finished fifth in the 800-meter run (1:55.11) and the 4 x 400-meter relay team of #Philip Schierer#, #Marcus Mersereau#, #Jake Lafaver# and #Zach Lafaver# placed 10th in 3:26.56.
