NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Freshman #
Taylor Pierson# leaped to a first-place finish in the women's long jump Saturday at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the New Balance Armory in New York City.
Pierson shattered her own school record yet again with a leap of 5.51 meters (18 feet, 1 inch) and provisionally qualified for next week's NCAA Championships in Naperville, Ill. Pierson also finished first at last week's NYSCTC meet at Ithaca.
Nazareth finished 24th in the team standings with 13 points, with Pierson accounting for 10 of those points in the long jump.
In the men's meet, junior #Jake Lafaver# also provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in the 800-meter run as he placed third with a personal-best time of 1:53.24, accounting for all six of Nazareth's team points. Freshman #Khiary Gayle# also competed for Nazareth in the triple jump, but fouled on all three attempts and failed to place.
Also in the women's meet, sophomore #
Hannah Brackley# finished seventh in the 500-meter dash with a school-record time of 1:18.30. Brackley and Pierson each ran in two relays. Nazareth set a school record in the 4 x 200-meter relay (1:47.54) with a 19th-place finish on Friday. That foursome was Pierson, Brackley, #
Sibongile Chisi# and #
Amanda Entress#.
Nazareth also was ninth in the 4 x 400-meter relay (4:09.39) with the foursome of Pierson, Chisi, #
Keaghlan Morrissey# and Brackley. The Golden Flyers also shattered the school record in the 4 x 800-meter relay with an eighth-place time of 9:39.39. Seniors #
Lauren Jamieson# and #
Kelsey Mash# competed for Nazareth in that event along with junior #
Lauren Heitzhaus# and sophomore #
Michaela Gildemeyer#. Jamieson also ran in the 1,000-meter run and finished 21st (3:08.69).
