Flyers compete at Tiger Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior Jake Lafaver and sophomore Hannah Brackley each posted second-place finishes in their respective 500-meter dashes Friday as the Golden Flyers' men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Tiger Invitational at RIT's Gordon Fieldhouse.

Lafaver broke his own school record in the men's 500-meter dash with a time of 1:06.78. The previously mark of 1:07.66 was set last season at Cornell. Senior Philip Schierer finished ninth in the same event with a time of 1:09.04. Freshman Khiary Gayle also competed for the Golden Flyers and finished 17th in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Freshman Luis Rivera was 18th in the weight throw with a toss of 41 feet, 1 1/2 inches.

Brackley was Nazareth's top finisher in the women's meet with a time of 1:20.62. Seniors Keaghlan Morrissey (fourth, 1:23.55) and Katie Wyant (eighth, 1:29.16) also competed in the 500 along with sophomore Nicole Greer (10th, 1:32.64). Brackley also competed on Nazareth's 4 x 200-meter relay that finished third in 1:49.07. Freshmen Taylor Pierson, Sibongile Chisi and Amanda Entress also ran in that race.

Chisi also finished 11th in the pole vault (8 feet, 10 1/4 inches) and Entress was 11th in the long jump (16 feet, 3 1/4 inches). Other top finishers included senior Lauren Jamieson in the 800-meter run (sixth, 2:26.07), sophomore Michaela Gildemeyer in the 1,000-meter run (eighth, 3:11.34), junior Lauren Heitzhaus in the mile (12th, 5:35.28) and senior Kelsey Ryan in the 3,000-meter run (14th, 11:15.83).
