ROCHESTER, NY – Ithaca defeated Nazareth 55-45 to remain on top of the Empire 8 Conference. The Bombers are now 9-1 in the Empire 8 and 17-2 overall. Nazareth falls to 4-6 in the E8 and 7-14 overall.
The Golden Flyers led 22-20 after the first half, taking advantage of the Bombers poor shooting which included just 22.6% from the field and 40% from the foul line.
Erica Shaw scored a field goal with 2:18 left in the first half to give Nazareth a 21-20 lead and
Veronica Peck added a free throw with :21 seconds left to put the Golden Flyers ahead, 22-20.
The Bombers tied the score up just 40 seconds into the second off a jumper by Kathryn Campbell. Nazareth's
Hannah Runyon answered back with a jumper of her own to take back a two point lead. The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes until the Bombers took the lead for good with 15:15 left in the second and never trailed from there.
Ithaca continued to build on their lead and led by as many as 12 points with under a minute to go in the game.
Lindsey Kelly led Nazareth with 19 points and seven rebounds. Shaw had 10 points and Peck finished with eight. Devin Shea and Kathryn Campbell each finished with 16 points for the Bombers. Campbell also had a game high 11 rebounds.
The Bombers out-rebounded Nazareth 45-36.
Nazareth travels next Friday to Alfred for a 6 pm game before returning home on February 12 to face its East Avenue rival St. John Fisher College at 6 pm.
