Now in his ninth year as Nazareth's head golf coach, Marty Coddington has helped the Golden Flyers' men's team remain competitive in tough Empire 8 Conference while dramatically improving the women's team into one of the top teams in the state.
Coddington has guided the Golden Flyers' men's team to two conference titles as well as eight other tournament titles. They've also had nine second-place finishes while producing one NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region all-star, one Academic All-American, three conference Players of the Year and two E8 Freshmen of the Year.
Coddington has been rewarded by being named E8 Coach of the Year four times (2002-03, 2003-04, 2006-07 and 2007-08).
Coddington also has helped develop the women's team into a competitive group. This year's team will compete for the Empire 8 Conference title for the first time.
A native of Horseheads, N.Y., Coddington played golf at Horseheads High as a seventh grader and earned all-conference honors for seven consecutive years. He continued his career for four years at LeMoyne College, graduating summa cum laude in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in management information systems. In 1996, Coddington earned his New York State CPA license. He recently earned his Master of Science degree in Management from Nazareth College.
One of Coddington’s career highlights came at age 17 when he was chosen to serve as captain of a team of 25 American golfers that traveled to Scotland to compete in the Carnoustie Junior Invitational. He placed sixth in the tournament and won the Maxfli-sponsored Pringle Cup for outstanding sportsmanship.
Coddington moved to the Rochester area in 1995 and since 1998 has worked for Wegmans Food Markets. For six years, he worked as a CPA and business analyst, and for the last three years has been working in Human Resources. He also works as a part-time accounting instructor at Nazareth.
