ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Geneseo scored the game-winning goal with just :06 left in regulation Tuesday as the Blue Knights defeated Nazareth in a non-conference men's lacrosse game, 13-12.

The game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather. Conditions were much better Tuesday as Geneseo, ranked 17th nationally, improved to 2-0. Nazareth, ranked 15th nationally, is 1-1.

Geneseo's Joe Malach scored the game-winning goal off the fifth assist of the game from Mike Pizzuto to snap the 12-12 deadlock. The game was tied eight times, including 2-2 after one quarter and 4-4 at halftime. Nazareth had the lead at 12-11 following the third goal of the game by Matt Aloi with 3:45 to play. Geneseo, however, tied the score at 12-12 on a goal by Pizzuto with 2:33 left.

The Blue Knights then were successful in killing off a Nazareth extra-man opportunity that resulted from a one-minute slashing penalty with 1:24 left.

Geneseo scored four of the first five goals of the second half to break up a 4-4 halftime tie. Tom Costanza scored two of his four goals in that stretch, while Mike Cintineo and Ryan Plante also scored. Nazareth came back, though, with three straight goals to tie the score again. Aaron Civalier scored unassisted with 1:09 left in the third quarter, then Aloi scored with :47 left and again to open the fourth quarter.

Geneseo reclaimed a two-goal advantage, 11-9, as Steven Hutton and Craig Lange scored just over a minute apart. Nazareth closed to within 11-10 on an extra-man goal by Civalier with 5:37 left and then took the lead, 12-11, on goals by freshman Corey Remoli and Aloi.

Remoli finished with a career-best four goals, while Aloi and Civalier each had three. Erinn O'Hara had a first-quarter goal and sophomore Joe Valasiadis scored his first career goal in the second quarter. Senior attackman Steve Cutia contributed three assists.

For Geneseo, Pizzuto finished with one goal and five assists, Costanza scored four times, Mike Cintineo and Lange each scored twice.

Nazareth had a 46-33 edge in shots and won 17 of 29 face-offs, ledby junior Chris Law taking 13 of 21. Sophomore goalie Todd Dermody made 13 saves. Eddie Watts and Dennis Costanza combined for 15 saves for Geneseo.

Nazareth opens its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday against Elmira at 1 p.m. at Corning East High School.
