CAZENOVIA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored the first three goals of the game Wednesday and held on for a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Cazenovia.
The victory was the first of the season for the Golden Flyers, who will visit D'Youville Saturday with a 1-2 overall record.
Wednesday's game was scoreless until the 27th minute when freshman
Josh Crespo converted a penalty kick for his first career goal and a 1-0 Nazareth lead.
About six minutes later, junior
AJ Muoio, who subbed into the game a few minutes earlier, netted his first goal of the season off an assist from senior
Mitchell Fors.
The second half was less than three minutes along when the Golden Flyers scored again with freshman
Tristan Custer scoring for the first time with an assist from another first-year player,
Max Staniec. Six freshmen were in the starting lineup for the Golden Flyers and five more saw action off the bench.
Cazenovia avoided the shutout when Jake Robson scored in the 58th minute off an assist from Jadon Barton. The Wildcats had slim advantages in shots (13-12) and corner kicks (4-3). Sophomore
Brian Wilkin started in goal for Nazareth and had five saves. Freshman
Josh McNutt played the final 5:39 and was credited with one save.
