ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Mary Washington of Virginia had decisive advantages in shots (43-1) and penalty corners (26-0) against Nazareth Sunday as the Eagles blanked the Golden Flyers in a non-conference field hockey match, 6-0, on the artificial turf field.
The Golden Flyers, still looking for their first goal of the season, after shutout losses to Rochester and Mary Washington, dropped to 0-2. The Eagles evened their record at 1-1.
The Golden Flyers managed only one shot -- a first-half chance by freshman
Emilee Rosenberg that sailed wide of the goal. Mary Washington, meanwhile, had 19 shots in the first half with four finding the mark. Morgan MacCartney, Morgan LaRowe, Erin Kaila and Izzy Scholz scored for the Eagles against Nazareth goalie
Kimber Nourse.
Freshman
Ashley Mann replaced Nourse to start the second half and yielded the final two goals -- by Scholz and Bella Urcia -- before Nourse went back in. She finished with 16 saves.
Nazareth returns to action with a pair of road games this week -- Wednesday at Wells at 6 p.m. and Saturday at Utica at 4:30 p.m.
