ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth and RIT battled through 110 minutes of soccer Tuesday afternoon, but neither team could score as the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
RIT outshot Nazareth 18-5 overall, including 4-0 in the two 10-minute overtime sessions, as the Tigers moved to 2-3-1 overall. Nazareth recorded its fourth straight shutout and had its record move to 4-2-1. After an 0-2 start, the Golden Flyers are unbeaten in their last five games (4-0-1) and have not allowed a goal since early in the second half of a 3-1 win at Cazenovia Sept. 6, a stretch of more than 400 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Brian Wilkin, the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week, has been the beneficiary of the solid defensive play as he recorded his third shutout. He made seven saves. Freshmen
Dan Serpe,
Adrian Padilla and
Justin Pumputis were defensive starters along with sophomore
Dilan Campbell and junior
James Walsh.
Only three of Nazareth's five shots were on goal -- one each for Campbell,
Matt Gasbarre and
Zach Titus.
RIT amped up the offensive pressure late in the second half and in the two overtime periods. The Tigers had, perhaps, the best scoring opportunity three minutes into the second overtime when a hard shot by Nick Simone was saved by Wilkin, who lowered his goals-against average to 0.86.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday with a home game against Elmira at 1 p.m.
