CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Nazareth opened its women's volleyball season Friday by splitting a pair of matches at the Red Dragon Invitational at Cortland.
The Golden Flyers swept Oneonta in three sets in the opening match, winning by scores of 28-26, 25-19, 25-22. Nazareth then dropped its second match in four sets against Coast Guard Academy. Scores were 25-17, 15-25, 25-22, 25-22.
Junior middle
Kelsey Milligan paced the Golden Flyers' attack with nine kills against Oneonta and eight more against Coast Guard. Junior
Carmen Sapp contributed seven kills against Oneonta and freshman setter
Jessica Barry delivered 27 assists. Freshman libero
Savannah Bothner had 14 digs.
Against Coast Guard, sophomore
Melissa Newcomb equaled a career-high 12 kills on 25 swings and junior
Madison Joseph had seven kills and sophomore
Delaney Martin had six. Bothner added 15 digs and three aces and Barry totaled 21 assists.
Nazareth returns to the court Saturday for two more matches at Cortland. The Golden Flyers play Stockton at 11 a.m. and Lebanon Valley at 4.
