ROCHESTER, NY – The young Nazareth field hockey squad faced a difficult test to open the season, falling 5-0 to 14
th-ranked Rochester Friday afternoon.
With the loss, Nazareth drops to 0-1 on the season, while Rochester improves to 1-0
The Yellowjackets opened up the scoring at 7:11 when Claire Dickerson notching her first of the season off a rebound in front of net.
Rochester led 2-0 at the half after Colleen Maillie cashed in from the right wing nine minutes before the horn sounded.
In the second half, Dickerson cashed in on another rebound opportunity to push the advantage to 3-0.
The high-octane Rochester offense made good on a shot seven minutes later and once again with less than a minute to play in the contest.
Rochester was credited with 39 shots in the game. The Golden Flyers lone scoring chance came with less than two minutes to play when freshman
Lydia Dewart ripped a shot that required Rochester's Courtney Dunham to make a defensive save.
Junior
Kimber Nourse backstopped 23 saves in net for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth will host Mary Washington at 12 pm Sunday for its home-opener.
