GENESEO, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's and women's track and field teams returned to action Sunday at the Geneseo Invitational. No team scoring was kept, but the Golden Flyers had some strong individual performances, including a second-place finish by junior Nick LaBarbera in the 200-meter dash. His time of :22.70 was just a couple of ticks off his personal-best time.
Among Nazareth's other top performers were sophomore Jake Garbeck, who finished seventh in the javelin with a heave of 42.20 meters (138 feet, 5 inches); junior Tyler Hancock, who finished 12th in the hammer throw with a distance of 38.05 meters (124 feet, 10 inches); and senior Matt Battaglia, who ran to 20th place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:14.52.
In the women's meet, sophomore
Alycia Atwell-Chwazik performed well in placing second in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 1:00.33. She also was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.14 meters (16 feet, 10 1/2 inches). Junior
Emily Soeder placed second in the high jump by clearing 1.53 meters (5 feet, 1/4 inch). Sophomore
Sara Thomas also reached a personal-best in the triple jump with a leap of 10.11 meters (33 feet, 2 inches), good for seventh place.
Freshman
Cassie Ellis also reached a personal best time in the 200-meter dash at :28.35 to finish in 22nd place. Junior
Samantha Goble finished 23rd in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:07.38. Junior
Claire Ludington (5:13.11) and sophomore
Eileen Shea (5:17.75) finished 35th and 40th respectively in the same race.
