BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Nazareth's track and field teams were in action Friday at the Brockport Invitational. No team scoring was kept, but there were several top performances, including personal-best times for senior Jenoy Merchant in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Merchant finished in 14th place in both races. He ran :11.51 in the 100 and :23.47 in the 200. Junior Nick LaBarbera also ran well in the 100 with an 11th-place finish in :11.46. Merchant and LaBarbera also competed in the 4 x 100-meter relay that finished third in :44.16. Jervon Harrison and Nathaniel Murad also ran in that race.
Senior Matt Battaglia and sophomore Jack Wessel also produced personal-best times in the 1,500-meter run. Battaglia ran 4:12.27 to finish 10th, while Wessel ran 4:14.48 to finish 15th. The Golden Flyers also finished ninth in the 4 x 400-meter relay (3:44.12) with the team of Jacob Dougall, Jake Garbeck, Wessel and Jacob Murray.
Junior Tyler Hancock finished eighth in the discus with a personal-best heave of 36.17 meters (118 feet, 8 inches).
In the women's competition, junior
Samantha Goble placed first in the 1,500-meter run with a winning time of 4:55.81. Junior
Claire Ludington finished third in the same event (5:04.42) and sophomore
Eileen Shea was 13th (5:09.74).
Goble also anchored Nazareth's 4 x 400-meter relay that finished third in 4:14.20.
Sarah Williams,
Karly Keil and
Cassie Ellis also ran. Keil and Ellis also ran in the 4 x 100-meter relay that finished sixth in :53.63.
Alycia Atwell-Chwazik and
Andrea Larnard also competed.
Junior
Emily Soeder cleared 1.58 meters (5 feet, 2 1/4 inches) to finish second in the high jump.
