CANTON, NY – Senior Matt Battaglia raced to a second place finish in the 800, while
Emily Soeder (high jump) and
Samantha Goble (800) each placed fifth in their events to highlight day two of the NYSCTC Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence.
For the women, Soeder recorded a 1.55 meter (5 feet, 1 inch) mark for fifth in the high jump.
Sarah Williams also had a strong showing at 1.50 meters (4 feet, 11 inches) to place 10
th.
Goble earned fifth place in the 800 in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:22.24.
A day after taking first in the long jump,
Alycia Atwell-Chwazik was fourth in the triple jump at 10.69 meters (35 feet, 1 inch), also an ECAC qualifying mark.
Other highlights included
Cassie Ellis taking eighth in the 400 (1:02.33) and
Sarah Williams 13
th in the 500 (1:23.42).
The duo of
Emily Thompson (10:47.16) and
Claire Ludington (11:01.75) were 10
th and 13
th, respectively in the 3,000 meter run.
Nazareth's 4 x 400-meter relay of Ellis, Williams, Goble, and
Andrea Larnard closed out the meet with an eighth place finish (4:15.09).
Battaglia (1:56.86) was just edged out for the top spot in the 800 by Erik Diehl (1:56.44) of Alfred for the top spot.
The Syracuse, NY native also teamed up with Nick LaBarbera, Jenoy Merchant, and Nathaniel Murad to rip off the sixth fastest time (3:27.05) of the day in the 4 x 400, which was an ECAC qualifying time.
LaBarbera was able to secure fourth place in the 400 in an ECAC mark of 50.33.
Murad also competed in the 500-meter run, finishing in 13
th place (1:09.79).
