CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Nazareth dropped a pair of non-conference men's volleyball matches Friday as the Golden Flyers traveled to Mt. St. Joseph and lost in three sets to the Lions by scores of 25-22, 27-25, 25-13. That match was preceded by a four-set loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering by scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 25-23.
Nazareth, now 12-8 overall, travels to Springfield, Ohio Saturday to play Wittenberg at 5:30 p.m.
Against MSOE, the teams split the first two sets, then the Raiders gained the upper hand by winning the third set. Nazareth then led 18-12 in the fourth set, before MSOE rallied. The Raiders' Neil Naughton had a kill on match point to make MSOE a winner.
Zachary Gillard had 11 kills for Nazareth and
Jake Kemp totaled 25 assists.
Tom Keisling had 10 digs.
Against Mt. St. Joseph, the Lions captured close sets to go up 2-0 before running away with the third set. In the second set, a kill by Gillard put Nazareth up 25-24, before the Lions scored the last three points to take a commanding advantage. The home team then close out the Golden Flyers by dominating the third set. Nazareth had just four kills against nine kitting errors to produce a negative hitting percentage. The Lions, meanwhile, had 11 kills and a .318 percentage.
Keisling had eight kills while Gillard and
Kane Wittorff each had seven. Keisling also had seven digs and
Luis Vazquez six.
