HOBOKEN, NJ – For the second time in as many days, the Nazareth men's hoops team let a late lead slip away, as the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks earned a 94-86 victory Saturday night.  Sophomore Brendan Wind scored 37 points (14-for-28) and added seven assists in the losing effort.

The Golden Flyers (15-10 overall, 9-7 Empire 8) sneak into the Empire 8 Tournament as the No. 4 seed.  Nazareth and Hartwick each held an identical 9-7 conference records and split the season series, however, the Golden Flyers earn the bid having defeated top-seed St. John Fisher (20-5, 15-1).  The Cardinals did Nazareth a favor with a 90-88 overtime victory over Hartwick on Saturday to bump the Hawks out.  Stevens (18-7, 11-5) earns the No. 2 seed, while Utica (10-6, 10-15) is the No. 3 seed.

No. 4 Nazareth and host St. John Fisher will square off in the semifinals on Friday night at 6 p.m.

Late in regulation, Wind was able to convert a one-handed floater off a spin move, along with the subsequent foul shot for an 80-77 lead with :49 seconds to play.

Stevens converted two quick free throws on the ensuing possession.  Nazareth ran the clock with the ball until Wind was called for an offensive foul with :11 seconds to play.

Nazareth inadvertently fouled Stevens on a non-shooting foul with :06 on the clock, sending the Ducks to the line for two shots in the bonus.  Stevens, however, only converted one which sent the game into overtime.

Two free throws from Tyler Stenglein at the three minute mark tied the game at 83.  Nazareth was doomed in the extra period, however, with a 1-for-8 shooting performance that allowed the hosts to pull away late.

Stevens jumped out to 19-10 advantage at the midway point of the first half.  Josh Gillard was able to cash in on a 3-pointer to help the Golden Flyers get started.  Wind scored the next eight points for Nazareth and 3-ball from Tyler Stenglein trimmed the Ducks margin to 27-24 with 4:28 to play.

Stevens held a 37-35 at the break.  Wind put in 21 of those points on 10-for-15 from the field.

Wind scored his 30th point after completing a traditional 3-point play, which gave Nazareth a 66-61 lead with eight minutes to play.

Jake Burgio drained a tough jumper to his left from the foul line for a 77-75 lead with 1:25 remaining.  Burgio was a monster all night on the boards, finishing with 16.  He also had 10 points (5-for-9) for his sixth double-double of the year.
