Nazareth splits matches at Elmira

ELMIRA -- Nazareth's men's volleyball team, ranked 11th nationally, split a pair of non-conference matches Friday at Elmira' Speidel Gymnasium. The Golden Flyers, 8-5 overall, were swept by 15th-ranked Lasell by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 26-24 before rebounding to sweep Southern Vermont by scores of 25-14, 25-11, 25-10.

Nazareth opens its United Volleyball Conference schedule Saturday at home against MIT at 11 a.m. and against Bard at 4 p.m. Bard and MIT play in between at 1:30.

The Golden Flyers dominated Southern Vermont behind eight kills from sophomore Trevor Gooch. Senior Robert Sarneckis added seven kills and senior Kane Wittorff had six kills on nine swings. Sophomore setter Tyler Farnung combined 26 assists with six service aces.

Earlier in the day, Nazareth struggled against Lasell despite 10 kills from sophomore Zachary Gillard and seven kills and seven digs from senior Tom Keisling. Sophomore Ethan Ross had four kills and junior setter Jake Kemp had 25 assists.
