Rochester, NY - Championship weekend is upon us and the Nazareth College women's volleyball squad (20-12 overall, 7-1 E8) is geared up as the No. 2 seed for

the Empire 8 Tournament, hosted at top-seeded Stevens (24-7 overall, 8-0 E8). The winner of the four-team tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships.
Nazareth will square off against third-seeded St. John Fisher (22-8 overall, 6-2 E8) in the semifinals on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Stevens hosts No. 4 Alfred (9-20 overall, 4-4 E8) at noon on Saturday in the first semifinal matchup.

On the Line
The winner of the four-team tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament. Nazareth has appeared in the National Tournament 11 times in the programs history. The last time the Golden Flyers made the NCAA Tournament was 2013 when it won the conference championship and lost to NYU in the first round.
E8 Tournament History
Nazareth has won the Empire 8 Championship seven times dating back to 1999 (2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013). The Golden Flyers are 16-8 in the Empire 8 Tournament, with a 1-0 record vs St. John Fisher, 3-2 record against Stevens and 1-0 record against Alfred. Nazareth has qualified for the tournament every year except 2005
Last Time They Met
vs St. John Fisher (10/4/17) – Nazareth defeated the Cardinals in four sets in its first home game of the season, 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15. Fisher's Katie Mazierkski had a game-high 13 kills, while
Kelsey Milligan had 12 kills on a .259 attack percentage.
At Stevens (10/7/17) – Stevens moved past Nazareth in three sets (20-25, 23-25, 26-28), finishing with a .343 attack percentage, compared to just .090 for the Golden Flyers. Stevens had three players with double-digit kills in Casey King, Emily Singleton and Taleen Mitchell.
Savannah Bothner had 17 digs in the losing effort.
vs Alfred (10/21/17) – The Saxons put up a fight, wining the opening set, before the Golden Flyers were able to respond with a 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 win. Milligan and
Madison Joseph each put down nine kills on a .320 attack percentage, while
Jessica Barry dished out 36 assists.
Top Marks in the Conference
Nazareth has received key contributions from the freshman duo of Bothner at libero and
Jessica Barry as the setter. In conference play, Bothner leads the Empire 8 with 144 digs (4.97 per set), while Barry dishes out a conference-leading 10.4 assist per set average. Over the eight conference games, Barry has racked up 294 assists.
"Just Keep Swinging"
Middle blockers Milligan and
Melissa Newcomb ranks amongst the top 10 in the Empire 8 for hitting percentage. Milligan ranks sixth in the conference in hitting percentage (.311) on 82 kills, while Newcomb ranks seventh (.299) after putting down 70 kills. Milligan also is fourth in the conference with 23 blocks (.79 per set).
