Stevens Hands Field Hockey 5-1 Loss

Rochester – NY – Visiting Stevens matched its largest goal output of the season Sunday, defeating Nazareth 5-1 in Empire 8 action.

The Golden Flyers drop to 1-10 overall and 0-5 overall in conference play after  the loss, while Stevens improves to 4-7 and 2-3, respectively.

The Ducks found the net first at the 10 minute mark as Victoria Alvarez deflected in a shot for her 13th goal of the season.

A goal from Michaela Thompson was the only other scoring for the half as the Ducks took a 2-0 margin into the break.

Nazareth had a strong opportunity with twelve minutes remaining in the first on a three-on-one opportunity, but the Golden Flyers were unable to take advantage. 

Stevens had a strong start to the second half, scoring twice in the first 1:15 to break open a 4-0 advantage.

Katti Thomasian scored :33 seconds into the half on an unassisted goal and then added another less than a minute later. 

Nazareth broke through at 39:16 as Jessica Livesey scored her third goal of the season.  Livesey took a pass from Jennifer Hilts up the right side and rocketed it into the back of the net to make it 4-1.

Stevens added an insurance goal late in the game to wrap up the scoring.

Junior goalie Kimber Nourse made 13 saves in net.

Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to St. Lawrence University for a 5 p.m. matchup.
