ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth dropped a three-set women's volleyball match to NYU Friday during the first day of competition at the New York Regional Challenge at the University of Rochester's Palestra.
The Golden Flyers dropped to 19-11 overall with the non-conference defeat. Scores were 25-22, 25-16, 25-20. NYU improved to 8-20.
The Violets used a balanced attack, anchored by a solid .215 hitting percentage to knock off the Golden Flyers in efficient fashion. Rayne Ellis had nine kills with just one hitting error for a .500 hitting percentage. Setters Zel Forston (14) and Kathryn Goyette (13) combined for 27 assists. Ellis had three kills in each set.
Junior
Carmen Sapp led Nazareth with 10 kills , while
Kelsey Milligan and
Melissa Newcomb each had seven. Freshman
Jessica Barry contributed 20 assists and freshman
Savannah Bothner had 14 digs.
Nazareth plays two more matches Saturday -- vs. Rowan at 10:30 a.m. and vs. Fredonia at 2:30 p.m.
