ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior
Kelsey Milligan banged out a match-high 13 kills to go with five blocks Friday as Nazareth defeated visiting Keuka in a non-conference women's volleyball match that extended to four sets. Scores were 27-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-14.
Nazareth improved to 17-9 overall, while Keuka dropped to 6-15. Nazareth is home again Saturday for a pair of Empire 8 Conference matches, starting at 11 a.m. The Golden Flyers play Alfred at 11 and Utica at 4. In between Allfred and Utica meet at 1:30 p.m. Nazareth can clinch an E8 playoff berth with a victory in one of the two matches.
Milligan had six of her kills in the opening set as the Golden Flyers outlasted the Wolves. Keuka went ahead 25-24 late in the set, but Nazareth scored the last three points on kills my Milligan and
Jessica Barry, plus a Keuka attacking error.
In the second set, Keuka prevailed as the Wolves rallied from a 20-16 deficit as Lauren Moelbert had four of her team-high 10 kills.
Nazareth came back strong to take sets three and four. Junior
Carmen Sapp had three kills and four digs in the third set and Milligan had three kills and a pair of solo blocks. The Golden Flyers led 13-11 in the fourth set, then a kill by
Melissa Newcomb touched off a scoring run that saw Nazareth score eight straight points to take command. Freshman
Savannah Bothner did most of the serving during the scoring spree and had an ace, while Sapp had a kill and combined with Milligan for a block.
Then with Nazareth up 24-14, sophomore
Donovan Enriquez served up an ace on match point to clinch the win.
Sapp finished with 10 kills, five digs and four blocks and Barry had 24 assists. Junior
Celia Cordero had 12 assists and eight digs. Bothner had four aces and a match-high 13 digs.
