Box Score l Updated Stats

HOUGHTON, NY – The Nazareth men's basketball squad slipped up for the second time in as many days in conference play, falling 81-73 Saturday at Houghton College despite having five scorers in double figures.  Sophomore Daniel Jacob scored a career-high 17 points (7-for-12) in the loss.

Nazareth drops to 6-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while Houghton improves to 6-5 and 1-1, respectively.

After struggling from 3-point land on Friday night against Alfred, going 1-for-19, Nazareth drained 4-of-9 in the opening half against the Highlanders.  Josh Gillard hit 2-of-4 attempts for 3-point range, while Jacob was a perfect 2-for-2.

The Highlanders mustered leads of seven twice in the half, including scoring the final bucket to make it 37-30 at the break.

It appeared as if Houghton was pulling away in the second half when a layup at the 7:52 mark put the hosts up 65-51.

A 3-pointer from Gillard, his third of the game, cut the lead to just four at 71-67 with under four minutes to play.  He finished the game with 11 points.

After a Jacob layup nearly a minute later, it was 73-69 with 2:29 on the clock.  Nazareth, however, was never able to get any closer.

Jacob finished 7-of-12 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from downtown.

Tyler Stenglein went for 15 points (7-for-18), while Jake Burgio was an efficient 5-for-8 en route to 14 points.  Burgio was one rebound shy of a double-double.

Brendan Wind was Nazareth's final scorer in double figures, finishing 5-of-10 for 12 points.  He also had a game-high six assists.

Nazareth returns home on Thursday, when it hosts Utica at 8 p.m. in Empire 8 action.
