ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth had strong shooting performance Tuesday night, going 35-for-62 (57 percent), to earn a 88-78 win over Ithaca at Kidera Gymnasium.
Tyler Stenglein registered his second double-double of the season with 29 points (12-for-21) and 11 rebounds.
Brendan Wind notched a double-double as well, with 19 points and 10 assists. Wind dished out nine of those assists in the second half to earn his third double-double of the season.
Nazareth, winners of five straight and seven of its last eight contests, improves to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in conference play, while Ithaca drops to 6-13 and 2-8, respectively.
The Golden Flyers trailed 37-35 at the half, in part due to the Bombers holding a 24-15 edge in rebounds.
Both teams traded baskets for most of the second half to keep the game close. Nazareth went 5-for-9 from 3-point range in the second, with three coming from
Cody Green and two from
Josh Gillard.
Green connected from distance with eight minutes to play to give Nazareth a 69-59 advantage.
Shortly after, Wind converted traditional 3-point play, followed by a foul line jumper to push Nazareth's lead to 74-62 with seven minutes to play.
The Golden Flyers kept their distance the rest of the way, holding an eight point lead or greater.
Nazareth built its largest lead of the first half at 23-14 following a traditional 3-point play from Gillard at the 10 minute mark.
The Golden Flyers went cold from the field thereafter, going nearly five minutes without a basket, allowing the Bombers to climb back into the contest.
Ithaca took its first lead of the game off a 3-pointer from Sebastian Alderete, making it 32-20 with 1:34 remaining in the half.
Green was 5-for-7 from 3-point range for 15 points. He is now shooting 47 percent from beyond the arc this season.
Gillard went for 11 points on 4-for-5 from the field and grabbed six rebounds.
Nazareth will travel to Utica on Thursday for an 8 p.m. contest.
