SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Nazareth volleyball team got out on the right foot on Friday night, taking down SUNY Cortland in four sets 25-17, 25-18, 10-25, 25-23 in its first contest of the Skidmore Invitational. The Golden Flyers will play two more matches tomorrow, starting with Skidmore at 11 a.m., followed by Sage Colleges at 1 p.m.
Nazareth moves to 11-5 overall with the win, while the Red Dragons fall to 9-8.
Nazareth put down a match-high 14 kills in the first set and followed it up with a .250 attack percentage in the second set (12 kills on 32 attempts with four errors).
Senior
Cady Messmer ripped off a season-high five service aces to contribute to the team total of 11. She led the team with 14 kills and contributed 13 digs.
Maureen Thayer dished out 36 assists, while adding 17 digs of her own.
Celia Cordero led the defense with 25 digs.
Carmen Sapp (8 kills) and
Melissa Newcomb (7 kills) each turned in solid performances.
Kelsey Milligan hit .250 in the match with five kills.
