SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Nazareth's women's volleyball team split four matches over the weekend at the Hampton Inn River Hawk Classic at Susquehanna University. The Golden Flyers lost to the host team Friday in three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-15. They came back Friday to take a rive-set thriller from Geneseo by scores of 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-10.
Then on Saturday, Nazareth downed Frostburg State in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, before falling to Geneva in four sets 25-12, 23-25, 25-11, 25-20. The Golden Flyers are 8-3 overall with their first Empire 8 Conference match coming up Wednesday at home against Houghton at 7 p.m.
Against Susquehanna Friday, sophomore
Kelsey Milligan had nine kills on 14 swings and freshman
Melissa Newcomb added six kills. Senior
Maureen Thayer had 15 assists and six digs. In the Geneseo match, Nazareth rallied from two sets down to prevail as senior
Cady Messmer totaled 15 kills and Milligan, Newcomb and freshman
Delaney Martin each had nine. Thayer amassed 47 assists to go with 12 digs and three aces. Messmer also had 18 digs and three aces and junior
Lindsay Bynon had 17 digs.
In Saturday's first match against Frostburg State, Milligan delivered 16 more kills and sophomore
Carmen Sapp added 10. Thayer had 45 assists, three aces and 14 digs and sophomore
Celia Cordero contributed 14 digs.
In the Geneva match, Messmer had nine kills and Milligan and Sapp each had eight. Cordero had 25 digs.
