WAVERLY, IA – Senior Tom Sippie showed up on the big stage Friday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, breaking his own school record in the 400 prelims (47.61) to qualify for the finals on Saturday.

Sippie, who came into the meet seeded 11th, ran in the second of three heats, where he ripped off the record-breaking performance to finish third in his heat.  The Toms River, NJ native will head into tomorrow's final at 2:10 p.m. as the seventh seed.  James Wilson of Monmouth (Ill.) is ranked first after he ran 47.06.

Sippie has saved his best for last, as just over a week ago he ran a previous best of 47.78 to win the ECAC Track and Field Championship in the 400.

"Tom is definitely peaking at the right time," said head coach James Goss.  "I'm excited to see how the finals go tomorrow in a very talented field."

Also competing for Nazareth tomorrow will be senior Luis Rivera in the hammer throw.   He, along with the rest of the competitors, are set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
