WESTFIELD, Mass – Nazareth Senior
Tom Sippie broke the school record and won the 400-meter dash (47.78) at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Westfield State on Thursday. Sippie's time ranks him 11
th among Division III foes, which will send him to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week in Waverly, IA.
In the team scoring the men finished 12
th with 23 points and the women were 44
th with five points. Rowan won on both the men's and women's side.
Also turning in a positive performance in the 800 was
Nick LaBarbera who clocked a 48.95 to take seventh place.
On the women's side,
Samantha Goble and
Amanda Entress recorded personal bests in their respective events. Goble ran a 2:16.02 in the 800 to earn 14
th place, while Entress garnered 10
th place in the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters (17 feet, 3 ¼ inches).
Sophomore
Emily Soeder also competed for the Golden Flyers, taking 17
th place in the high jump at a mark of 1.54 meters (5 feet, ½ inches).
Luis Rivera, who currently ranks sixth in the country in the hammer throw (58.85 meters – 193 feet and one inch), along with Sippie will compete next week at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
A year ago, Rivera became the first-ever outdoor field All-American in the hammer throw as he finished eighth in the 20-man field with a then school record toss of 58.58 meters (192 feet, 2 inches).
