Rivera, Soeder win at Cardinal Last Chance Meet

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Senior Luis Rivera and sophomore Emily Soeder each won individual events Saturday as selected members of Nazareth's track and field teams competed at the Cardinal Last Chance Meet at St. John Fisher.

Rivera won the hammer throw with a first-place heave of 55.36 meters (181 feet, 7 inches), while Soeder cleared 1.52 meters (4 feet, 11 3/4 inches) to finish first in the high jump.

Senior Brandon Vuolo finished in sixth place in the hammer throw as he posted a personal-best distance of 47.25 meters (155 feet). He also was sixth in the discus (134 feet, 2 inches) and seventh in the shot put (45 feet, 10 1/2 inches).

Other Nazareth competitors included sophomore Samantha Goble, who placed third in the 400-meter dash (1:00.62); senior Amanda Entress, who finished sixth in the long jump (17 feet, 2 3/4 inches); junior Matt Battaglia, who finished eighth in the 800-meter run (1:58.78); and freshman Michaela Traylor, who finished eighth in the 400- (1:01.93) and third in the 200-meter dashes (:27.65).

Nazareth competes again Wednesday and Thursday at the ECAC Championships at Westfield State.
