NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Senior
Tim Zyburt posted a match-high 15 kills Friday as Nazareth swept MIT in a three-set match in men's volleyball. The Golden Flyers won by scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-22 to advance to Saturday's semifinals of the United Volleyball Conference Tournament.
Nazareth (26-8 overall), ranked ninth nationallly and seeded fourth in the six-team UVC showcase, will play Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the tournament semfinals against top-seeded and No. 1-ranked New Paltz. The teams have met twice this season with New Paltz winning both matches.
Zyburt's 15 kills Friday came with just one hitting error in 28 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Senior
Grant Levermore added 11 kills on 17 attempts for a .647 percentage. Senior
Coulton Every added six kills and sophomore setter
Jake Kemp contributed 35 assists. Junior libero
Tom Keisling had 11 digs. Senior Andre Richardson came off the bench to add two service aces.
Nazareth hit .375 as a team (42-9-88) and had 12 blocks. Seniors
Chris Mahan and
Josh Hieb each had seven blocks.
Nazareth dominated the first two sets as Zyburt had five kills in the first set and four more in the second. Although the third set was closer, Nazareth never trailed. Zyburt delivered six more kills, including the decisive final kill on match point.
