BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Nazareth track and field teams faced some stiff competition over the weekend at the 2016 Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College.
For the men's team, senior
Luis Rivera kept to his winning ways, outshining the competition in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.78 meters (183 feet, ¼ inches). Teammate Brandon Voulo tossed 44.17 meters (144 feet, 11 ¼ inches) to finish 13th.
Vuolo also competed in the shot put, earning 11
th place with a toss of 13.64 meters (44 feet, 9 inches).
The steady 4 x 400 squad of
Nick LaBarbera,
Tom Sippie,
Michael-Jordan Morris and
Matt Battaglia clocked a 3:19.95 to finish in third place.
Morris failed to qualify for the 110-meter hurdle finals, clocking a 15.67, but improved by .20 on his previous school record set at the Nazareth/Roc City Classic on Monday.
Senior
Patrick Neureuter was 37
th in the 1,500.
Battaglia also took 11
th in the 800-meter run in an impressive field. Jeremy Hernandez from Ramapo won in 1:52.35, while Battaglia came in 1:55.74.
On the women's side, Emily Soeder broke her own school record in the high jump at mark of 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3 ¾ inches). Her previous record, which she set last year, was 1.61 meters.
Amanda Entress took home eighth place honors in the triple jump at 10.94 meters (35 feet, 10 3.4 inches). She also had a strong showing in the long jump as her vault of 5.19 meters (17 feet, ½ inches) was good for ninth place.
Also for Nazareth, Gabrielle Bell took 23
rd place in the hammer throw with a heave of 34.07 meters (111 feet, 9 ½ inches).
Claire Ludington (5:01.66) and Gabrielle LeBihan (5:02.76) finished 29
th and 31
st, respectively in the 1500-meter run.
In the 200-meter dash, Freshman Michaela Traylor ripped of a 26.73, good for 26
th place.
The Nazareth 4 x 400 relay of Traylor, Samantha Goble, Andrea Larnard and Sarah Williams earned a ninth place finish with a time of 4:05.17.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday for the Empire 8 Championship, hosted by Houghton College.
