Updated statsROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Rochester scored three times within a six-minute stretch early in the second half Saturday to break open a close game in an 8-5 women's lacrosse victory over Nazareth at Fauver Stadium. The loss was the first of the season for the Golden Flyers, who slipped to 4-1. Rochester improved to 3-2.

Carly Gates had Nazareth's other goal. Jamie Wallisch scored three times and added three assists for the Yellowjackets, while Elisabeth Watson also scored twice.
Two first-half goals by Rothrock enabled Nazareth to tie the score at 2-2 late in the first half, but Watson scored off an assist from Wallisch with just :10 left in the half to give the Yellowjackets a 3-2 lead at the break.
Rothrock scored again just :22 into the second half off a pass from DeVona to tie the score again. UR then scored the next three goals -- two by Wallisch and one by Danielle Diacovo -- to go up 6-3 and never trailed again. Nazareth closed within 6-4 and 7-5 on goals by DeVona and Gates respectively, but Cassie Mahar scored for UR with 49 seconds left to seal the win.
Each team had 14 shots and 18 ground balls. Senior
Kayla McKay had five ground balls and four caused turnovers for Nazareth and Gates had three ground balls. Sophomore
Mackenzie Corbett played all 60 minutes in goal for Nazareth and made six saves. Maire Prosak made seven saves for Rochester.
Nazareth is back home Tuesday to play top-ranked Cortland in a non-conference game at 4 p.m. Nazareth also is at Brockport Thursday before beginning Empire 8 Conference play with a home game Saturday against Hartwick at 1 p.m.
