Updated statsROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth made short work of Cal Lutheran Friday in a non-conference men's volleyball match as the Golden Flyers won in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-14.
The Golden Flyers, ranked eighth nationally in Division III, improved to 21-6 overall with another match Saturday against top-ranked New Paltz at 1 p.m. Cal Lutheran, a first-year program, dropped to 4-20.
Senior
Tim Zyburt, who recently became the Golden Flyers' all-time kills leader, led the way Friday with a match-high 12 kills with no hitting errors in 19 attempts (.632). Freshman
Zachary Gillard added eight kills and five service aces. Sophomore setter
Jake Kemp had 36 assists.
Zyburt had seven of his kills in the opening set as Nazareth set an early tone. Gillard had six of his kills in the second set. In the third set, sophomore
Sam Bittker had four of his five kills and Gillard had four of his service aces.
Nazareth hit .423 (40-10-71) as a team and amassed 11 blocks with senior
Chris Mahan contributing five.
