Updated statsTHOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Seventh-ranked Nazareth won the first two sets against host Cal Lutheran Wednesday and then held on Kingsmen in five sets. Scores were 25-19, 27-25, 26-28, 22-25, 15-11. Nazareth is 18-5 overall. Cal Lutheran is 4-16.

In the decisive fifth set, Nazareth was down 3-2 early before rallying to seize control to avoid a major upset. Gillard had four of his kills and a key solo block that resulted in Nazareth's 12th point of the set. After the Kingsmen drew to within 13-10, Gillard had kills on Nazareth's final two points.
Zyburt had 11 of his kills in the first two sets for Nazareth as the Golden Flyers took control. Cal Lutheran rallied to take the next two sets as Robert Rutecki and Nolan Forghani each had eight kills over those sets.
Nazareth hit .248 as a team (65-27-153), but coughed up 23 points on service errors.
Nazareth travels to Santa Cruz Friday for a match against the Banana Slugs. The Golden Flyers also face Ramapo Saturday.
