Updated statsHUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Nazareth men's volleyball team rebounded with a pair of three-set wins over Hunter and Lasell respectively as the Golden Flyers concluded play at the Juniata Tournament. The Golden Flyers, ranked fourth nationally, downed Hunter by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 and Lasell by scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-18. Nazareth concluded the weekend at 14-3 overall.
The Golden Flyers hit .403 in the contest (40 kills, 9 errors, 77 attempts) against Hunter. Nazareth went for 17-1-27 in the second set, good for a .593 attack percentage. Freshman
Zachary Gillard led the way with a career-high 13 kills on a .571 attack percentage.
Senior
Tim Zyburt had a strong hitting day as well, putting down 10 kills (.429) while
Chris Mahan added seven on his own (.556). Mahan also had four blocks.
Tom Keisling registered 14 digs.
Jake Kemp dished out 36 assists and notched six digs.
In the Lasell match, Zyburt totaled a match-high 12 kills to go with eight digs and senior
Josh Hieb and junior
Kane Wittorff each added seven kills. Senior
Coulton Every also was active with five blocks. Sophomore setter
Jake Kemp had 36 assists. Nazareth also thrived with a .458 overall hitting percentage (41-8-72), while Lasell hit just .195 (31-16-77).
Nazareth travels to Elmira Friday to play Rivier and Wells in back-to-back matches. The Golden Flyers also are home Saturday against Mount St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
