ROCHESTER, NY- RIT hosted Nazareth Wednesday night at the Clark Gymnasium. The Golden Flyers came out on top in in the 19th game of the season. The final scores were 25-21, 18-25, 17-25, 25-19 and 15-10.
Nazareth has now won five games in a row to improve to 14-5 overall while RIT falls to 13-9 overall.
In the opening set the Golden Flyers defeated the Tigers 25-21. Nazareth trailed RIT at the beginning of the set, but pulled away to claim the victory.
In the second set, Naz fell to RIT 25-18. The tables turned in the third and RIT finished on top, 25-17.
Naz came back strong and swept the fourth set, 25-19.
Cady Messmer led Nazareth with 10 killsand four aces. Maureen Thayer contributed to the win offensively with 34 assists, five kills, two aces and finished with Nazareth's highest hitting percentage at .278.
Kelsey Milligan had 11 kills on a .226 hitting percentage. Melissa Newcomb hit .227 with seven kills on the night.
Celia Cordero led the Golden Flyers with 28 digs.
On RIT's side Sarah Szybist tallied an impressive 23 kills.
The Golden Flyers accumulated a hitting percentage of .183, including 49 kills off of 169 attempts. They recorded 18 errors and 62 total points against the Tigers.
Nazareth is back in action on the road Saturday against Utica at 11a.m. and Alfred at 1:30 p.m.
